About

Sustainability

By its nature, printing has an impact on the environment, the economy and society. The development of our sustainability strategy aims to continually improve our impact in these areas through innovating our business with industry and supply chain solutions.

The Science Based Targets initiative

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a partnership between the Carbon Disclosure Project, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute and the Worldwide Fund for Nature to promote best practice in emissions target setting for businesses. A science-based target is a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions aligned with the level of abatement required to avert the most dangerous impacts of climate change. With our targets now validated, we aim to move forward with collaborative initiatives with our suppliers, customers and partners across the value chain to achieve these goals.

Clays has committed to:

Overall Net-Zero Target

  • Reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050

Near-Term Targets

  • Reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 46.2% by 2030 from a 2019 base year
  • Reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 27.5% within the same timeframe

Long-Term Targets

  • Reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050 from a 2019 base year
  • Reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 90% within the same timeframe

We will be publishing further details on our targets and implementation plans on our website.

As Clays progress with our sustainability strategy, we will be updating you on these objectives and what we have already achieved with our newsletter.

FSC® Chain-of-custody certification

FSC is a global, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management worldwide.

FSC provides a connection between the forest and the end user, ensuring that products with the FSC label uphold principles and criteria which bring the highest social and environmental benefits.

FSC certification can positively impact workers and communities, shift governance processes globally and change economic and environmental conditions in the forest. This impact improves conditions such as conflict over land tenure and use, worker’s health and safety, biodiversity conservation, protection of endangered species and participatory forest policy.
